Britain's Next Top Model
Tuesday 10 August 2010Am I the only one who expected the judges to slightly redeem themselves in this week's episode? After the humiliation they put our favorite Irish lass Susan Loughnane through I really did think the matter would have been addressed. I mean some sort of apology or slight sympathetic mumble over last week's antics wouldn't have gone astray. I am still in shock at how they even managed to get away with being so cruel and down right mean.
I am also beginning to get slightly irritated by Elle Macpherson each week. In this week's episode she was just trying far too hard for my liking. At one stage it looked like she was about to re-enact the infamous Tyra Banks freak out on ANTM and start yelling at Joy "to take responsibility for yourself".
In fairness, in true Next Top Model style someone has to have a bad attitude and some form of anger management issue, it is almost part of the entry requirements at this stage. And okay I can see why Joy's attitude is bringing her down slightly. It's such a shame though, because I think she could be the dark horse of the competition. In the swimwear challenge in Sunny Spain she was one of the contestants that stood out from the bunch. I think in comparison to the other girls she has a bit of edge. Also, the more I look at her the more she is starting to remind me of Emma Griffiths the former MTV presenter, who is now married to that 'Busted' boy band has been Matt Willis.
I'm surprised they didn't rename last night's episode 'The Alisha Show'. She definitely got far more air time than all the other girls and was yapping away to the camera in nearly every scene. I suppose we have to give it to Alisha, she has confidence to burn. When all the other girls were prancing around Gatwick airport like crazy women looking for changing rooms, Alisha took the initiative to strip there and then in the middle of 'All Saints' (determination or what!!). I reckon if it wasn't for her jokes it would be quite a dull competition by now. It is almost refreshing to have a bit of humor and light-heartedness in the house.
Speaking of jokes (and Alishas/Aleshas for that matter), how on earth did Alesha Dixon manage to launch her own jewellery range? Don't get me wrong I am quite a fan of the 'The boy does nothing' singer but the thing that springs to mind when I think of her is not accessories. And the fact that it's only hitting TV sale outlets must be a bit of a bummer for her. I am very intrigued as to who would pay up to £275 for some musical note earrings. Sure with sales reps such as Amelia who said "that she was going to crash now" (not entirely sure what that means, and I don't think she did either), and Joy who lures you in with her swearing ways (three times for good measure) on live TV, how could you resist? I think everyone agreed when Charlotte won the sparkly diamond necklace - she won for her professionalism, which the other girls lacked.
Despite the judges' positive comments, I wasn't feeling Tiffany at all this week. I almost feel guilty saying that because she is trying so hard, but I just thought the poses she was pulling in that yellow bikini with that cowboy hat on were a bit lads mag end rather than high fashion. On the other hand Amelia looked absolutely stunning in her red ensemble. She really did redeem herself with that powerful pose and smiling eyes, and I think she shocked us all. I may have to pop her back in my top three list of possible winners.
When it got down to the final two in the judging panel last night, my heart went out to Nicola. She looked so fragile and vulnerable. I was over the moon that she got to stay, because I think everyone including herself expected that she would get the boot. Next week's episode looks absolutely amazing. I am actually very excited as the remaining eight contestants feature in 'Hollyoaks' next to the babe that is Ricky Whittle a.k.a Calvin Valentine. I think it's ironic that as much as they complained about Susan being too like an actress, yet last night's first challenge and most of next week's challenge is based on acting ability.
Hmmm something isn't right there!
