Lissie Maurus keeps some very good company on her debut album.

With singer-songwriter Ed Harcourt, Band of Horses' Bill Reynolds and Norah Jones producer Jacquire King, among others, at the controls and a great backing band, Maurus has a dream team willing her on. And she delivers.

The Illinois native dips in and out of blues, country and folk, but 'Catching a Tiger' roars loudest when she conjures up the magic of 1970s West Coast rock and 1960s pop.

On 'When I'm Alone' and 'In Sleep' the seductive ambience of 'Rumours' comes to life again, while the smart use of a Jaywalkers sample on 'Strangers' shows Maurer at her radio friendliest and leaves you longing for a crackling vinyl copy.

You'll be hearing a lot of this record.

Harry Guerin
