How to Look Good Naked

1 of 1 You've been Gokked
You've been Gokked

We must be watching the fifth series of 'How to Look Good Naked' by now. Looking back to the first series in 2006, it's impressive to think 'Aunty Gok' (his words not mine), still has endless fashion secrets for his 'gorgeous girlfriends' and their 'bangers'. In fairness, how can having women pose naked in shop windows and on catwalks in department stores ever get old? I am still baffled as to how these timid and insecure women brave it up and get the courage to bare all to the nation. (you go girls!).

Last night Gok's aim to have a nudist revolution in Britain wasn't quite achieved (phew). But he did manage to strip away the negative body attitude of Adele - a 40-year-old former flight attendant and figure skater. Since having kids Adele's confidence has crash landed. The fairy 'Gokmother' (again his words not mine), and his team of 'Gokettes' set out on one of his hardest missions to date - to get this woman's self-esteem flying high again.

As repetitive as these sob stories can be, the second the waterworks are unleashed, I just cannot help getting completely sucked in. It was impossible not to empathise with the lovely Adele who just about managed to say through her tears 'I have lost all my confidence. I just want to be like I used to be.' I started to wonder whether it was a confidence boost or a time machine that this fragile woman was looking for. In fairness, I don't blame her for at least hoping that 'Doc Brown' from 'Back to the Future' was going to pop out of Gok's bag of tricks (wouldn't want to be checking that thing into Dublin airport anytime soon).

I found it hard to understand why exactly Adele's husband, Paul, sat down and flicked through vintage photos of his wife when she was a twenty something year-old fresh faced stunner with an athletic build. Was it really necessary to add further salt to the already massive wound? All the Crème de la Mer in the world wouldn't have her looking that way again! (painful but true).

It annoyed me when Gok put this beautiful woman in a room full of mirrors and allowed her, even encouraged her to point out all her flaws. No wonder poor Adele looked disgusted. This was probably her idea of a nightmare. You would swear she was in a funhouse at her local amusement arcade when she said 'To see me from every angle is even worse than what I thought I looked.' I just thought the whole thing was incredibly unfair and must have been so humiliating for her.

Furthermore, did anyone else think it was a bit cheeky and hypocritical that Gok took off all Adele's make up, and then proceeded to tell her that she looks so much better with all that 'slap' on? Ahem, Bobby Brown eyebrow pencil. Check. Benefit highlighter. Check. Mac full coverage. Check. Pout lip liner. Check. Gok you are in no position to pass judgement love.

However, it is hard to fault this fashion genius. I couldn't get over how phenomenal Adele looked in those skinny jeans. And those magical underwear from Debenhams truly are amazing - wouldn't mind stocking up on them myself. All in all, it was heart-warming to see the new positive attitude which Adele had by the end of the episode. After stripping off in front of 5,000 people in a shopping centre it's great to see that her body hadn't altered but her self confidence was unrecognisable.

Gok Wan you're my hero!
