Juliana Hatfield sang in 1995 that "A heart that hurts is a heart that works" and it's a lyric that comes to mind listening to 'Light & Dark'.

The follow-up to 2006's iTunes-topping 'Tim's House', it finds Walsh expanding her sound but losing none of the warmth or intensity that made the in and out of love stories of her debut so hard for fans to shake.

With more strings and some subtle country touches, she comes up with her best work so far on 'As He Pleases', 'June Last Year' and 'Seafarer' and while there's scope for taking more risks, Walsh's singing throughout matches the best of what's out there right now.

She hasn't hit hear peak yet, and that's something to be excited about.
