The BBC website reports that the 35-year-old, who presented 'Strictly Come Dancing: On Three' in 2004, said Forsythe was too old for the job and suggested Terry Wogan as a replacement.

81-year-old Forsyth co-presents the show with Tess Daly. The BBC has been at the centre of an ageism row after replacing judge Arlene Phillips with the younger Alesha Dixon.

Lee Collins said: "I still think Bruce in his day was the best at what he did, but I think he should have given up three or four years ago."

The TV presenter also said he found Forsyth rude during his encounters with him while he was presenting the sister show. He said "As legendary as he is - I grew up loving him, as did my parents, as did my grandparents - he wasn't particularly nice to me on that show. I loved him and they do say never meet your idols because you're always going to be disappointed and in the case of Bruce I was disappointed. He was very rude."

A dancing fan, Lee Collins recently competed in a pro-am dance event in the United States as part of his Sky One programme 'Justin Lee Collins: Ballroom Dancer!'.

Lee Collins, who is currently promoting his new book, said he never misses 'Strictly Come Dancing'.
