Jolie appeals for help in Iraqi camp
Monday 27 July 2009According to The Telegraph the UN Refugee Agency Goodwill Ambassador, Jolie toured the Chikouk camp during a one-day visit to the war-torn country.
Appealing to the Iraqi government to provide the refugees with more aid and new homes, she said: "This is a moment where things seem to be improving on the ground, but Iraqis need a lot of support and help to rebuild their lives.
"The picture in this camp is a rough one, but there are also some people that were able to return home to other safer areas. There are some changes."
Brad Pitt's 34-year-old partner added that "there is progress" being made in the country and told the residents of the camp that she hoped "to come back and find you in a better place and in a different situation".
Chikouk is home to around 12,000 displaced Iraqis, who sleep in poorly-made shelters on bumpy ground.
