Mayer and Hilton in Twitter fight

John Mayer has reportedly waded into the heated feud between Perez Hilton and the Black Eyed Peas by poking fun at the blogger's reaction to his Sunday night alleged assault.

Perez, real name Mario Lavandeira, was allegedly attacked by Black Eyed Peas manager Polo Molina during a confrontation with Peas star will.i.am at the MuchMusic Awards in Toronto and took to his Twitter.com blog to ask fans to call the police and report the incident.

Hilton then posted a video on his blog, sobbing about the attack and showing a bruise under his eye - which he claimed was a battle mark.

But, despite the assault charge against Molina and the fact that Hilton has threatened to sue the Black Eyed Peas for their part in the fight, Mayer, a longtime butt of the blogger's online jokes, is refusing to take the whole incident seriously.

In a blog on his own Twitter page the rocker writes, "I love that perezhilton uses his cellphone to log on to twitter to post a tweet to ask his followers to call the police for him.

"Last year P!nk kneed me in the nuts outside Chateau Marmont. I was ***** blood for days. Did I make a scene?"

Mayer's comments prompted a response from Hilton, who fired back, "That's real funny! Ha ha! And I'm sure you also think I 'deserved' to get hit!"

The pair then entered into a war of words via Twitter.
