New twist in Madonna adoption attempt

The Press Association reports that the brother of the mother of four-year-old Chifundo 'Mercy' James has said he does not know the man who claims to be the child's father.
James Kambewa, 24, said he was the child's father and sought help from the Malawi Law Society to stop the adoption of the girl, who has been in an orphanage since shortly after her birth.
The case was adjourned by Malawi's Supreme Court on Monday. The Malawi High Court ruled last month that Madonna could not adopt the child because she is not a resident of Malawi.
The authorities in Malawi were strongly criticised for allowing Madonna to adopt 13-month-old David Banda in 2006.
That adoption saw Madonna accused of avoiding laws banning non-residents from adopting children in Malawi.
