Charlie Parr - Roustabout
Wednesday 11 March 2009Label: Independent
Year: 2009
Duration: 45 minutes
As great as your favourite albums are, that just-stumbled-upon treasure is perhaps the sweetest thing music can offer up. Here's one that shines brighter with every listen.
From Minnesota, Parr's travels through folk and blues yield great, lived-in tunes and compelling characters and fire you up to find everything else he's put his name to. He is a fantastic guitarist and, as some of his more ambient stuff here ('Midnight Has Come & Gone', 'Adrift in Lake Superior at Sunrise') shows, he can take his music wherever he wants to and still sound like the real deal.
Not a moment wasted and not one second where you're not wondering about hearing these songs played live.
