Coldplay album set for sales record

'Viva La Vida, Or Death and All His Friends' is the band's fourth studio album and went on-sale in the UK on Thursday. You can read a review here.
The album is expected to sell 400,000 to 500,000 copies by the end of the week, while HMV are expecting it to become the second fastest-selling album in UK chart history if it continues to sell at its current rate.
A spokesman for the retailer said: "This rate of sales exceeds even our optimistic forecasts, and shows how massively popular a band Coldplay remain despite having been away for the best part of three years.
"Aside from having a substantial core fanbase, Coldplay are one of the few acts that can genuinely connect with a much wider audience."
Coldplay's last album, 'X&Y', sold 465,000 in its first week. 'Viva La Vida, Or Death and All His Friends' is already expected to top Sunday's album charts despite going on sale three days later than its chart rivals.
However, it is unlikely to beat Oasis' 'Be Here Now' as the fastest-selling record in UK chart history.
That album sold 695,761 copies in the week after its release in 1997.
