Kanye's mother dies after surgery
Monday 12 November 2007Donda West, who was 58, died on Saturday night in Los Angeles but the cause of her death has not been released.
A publicist said that Donda had passed away "as the result of complications from a cosmetic surgical procedure".
A spokesperson later said: "The family respectfully asks for privacy during this time of grief."
Donda West was chief executive of West Brands LLC, her son Kanye's business enterprise, and chairperson of the Kanye West Foundation, which works to decrease dropout rates and improve literacy.
Kanye West often spoke of his close relationship with his mother, dedicating the song 'Hey Mama' to her.
The lyrics of the song proclaim: "I'm so proud of you ... I appreciate what you allowed for me. I just want you to be proud of me."
Donda West recently wrote a book in praise of her son, entitled 'Raising Kanye: Life Lessons from the Mother of a Hip-Hop Star'.
