Hilton receives three years probation
Tuesday 23 January 2007Hilton, who was not in court, was also fined $390 and ordered to attend an alcohol education programme.
Speaking after the hearing yesterday, Hilton's spokesman, Elliott Mintz, said: "I just spoke with her and she's happy that the matter is over."
25-year-old Hilton was originally charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood-alcohol level over California's legal limit of .08.
The socialite pleaded no contest to the lesser charge under a plea agreement with prosecutors; a spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney said she can reduce her probation by a year if she completes 40 hours of community service.
Hilton was stopped by police in the early hours of 7 September for driving erratically and was arrested after failing a sobriety test.
Speaking to radio station KIIS-FM, Hilton said she had been to a fundraising party after spending the day shooting a music video and had taken one drink.
"I had one margarita (and) was starving because I had not eaten all day. Maybe I was speeding a little bit and I got pulled over," she said.
