Chili Peppers, Shakira lead MTV nominations
Tuesday 1 August 2006Both are nominated for Video of the Year for their songs 'Dani California' and 'Hips Don't Lie' respectively, with Christina Aguilera ('Ain't No Other Man'), Madonna ('Hung Up') and Panic! at the Disco ('I Write Sins Not Tragedies') also in contention for the most coveted award.
The Chili Peppers are also nominated for Best Group Video, Best Rock Video, Best Art Direction in a Video, Best Editing in a Video and Best Cinematography in a Video with 'Dani California's director, Tony Kaye, also shortlisted for Best Direction in a Video.
Shakira is also shortlisted for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video, Best Dance Video, the Viewer's Choice award, Best Choreography in a Video and Best Art Direction in a Video.
Other artists nominated across the various categories include: 50 Cent, Green Day, Beyoncé, Pink, Mariah Carey, Kanye West, Nelly Furtado, Black Eyed Peas, Mary J Blige, Jamie Foxx, James Blunt, Kelly Clarkson and Gnarls Barkley.
U2's 'Original of the Species' is nominated for Best Special Effects in a Video and Best Editing in a Video.
The winners will be announced on 31 August at the Radio City Music Hall in New York.
