JK Rowling to guest at Queen's party
Thursday 2 February 2006The Children's Party at the Palace will celebrate British children's literature by inviting 2,000 children aged between four and 14, along with their grandparents, parents or guardians, to a tea party and entertainment at Buckingham Palace.
The children will meet JK Rowling as well as Harry Potter himself, in the form of the actor Daniel Radcliffe.
"Harry and I are looking forward to attending, particularly as we understand that, despite his alleged membership of the aristocracy, Lord Voldemort has not been invited," said Rowling yesterday.
Characters from Britain's favourite storybooks, including Paddington Bear, Mowgli from the Jungle Book, the Gruffalo and Winnie the Pooh, will join guests at the garden party.
Mary Poppins, the White Rabbit, Captain Hook and the Royal Ballet will star in a specially written show for live broadcast on BBC television that evening.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: "The Children's Party at the Palace will be a celebration of British children's literature, both traditional and modern, which we hope will encourage children to read and enjoy books."
