Fastest-selling single for X Factor star
Thursday 22 December 2005Music retailers are already predicting that the singer's debut single 'That's My Goal' could become one of the fastest-selling singles ever.
HMV singles buyer Stewart Allan said: "We knew That's My Goal would be a huge seller and a near certainty for the Christmas number one, but these initial sales are exceeding all expectations."
Woolworths said copies of Shayne Ward's new single had been snapped off the shelves at seven times the rate of the previous fastest-selling single of the year, The Crazy Frog's 'Axel F'.
The store also said it had sold 30 times more copies of 'That's My Goal' than the 'JCB Song', and more than the rest of the top 40 put together.
Woolworths music boss Jim Batchelor said: "It has lived up to all expectations at the tills and is a dead cert to be the Christmas number one on Sunday."
