Ernie's killer may return to Corrie
Wednesday 21 December 2005According to The Daily Mirror, Ernie's murderer will be released from jail in the New Year and will set about tracking down Emily Bishop (played by Eileen Derbyshire) in order to apologise for what he has done.
But while visiting Emily, the ex-prisoner will also strike up a bond with Eileen Grimshaw (played by Sue Cleaver), leaving the Street divided as to who to support.
According to the report, a 'Coronation Street' source said: "When the scripts came out and people read what was going to happen, there was shock - who would ever have thought that Ernie Bishop's killer would ever surface again and in such incredible circumstances?"
"A lot of the older viewers, in particular, will be staggered to see this plotline - it'll bring all the memories of Ernie's death flooding back," the source said.
Ernie was killed when two robbers broke into Mike Baldwin's factory, where he was working as a wages clerk. When they were disturbed one of the men shot Ernie, who later died in hospital.
The source also said: "This will make great TV. Poor Emily will be in turmoil and will really crack up about Ernie's killer living just down the Street."
