Charges dropped against Pete Doherty
Tuesday 12 April 2005The volatile former singer of the Libertines, openly addicted to cocaine and heroin, has seen his musical talents upstaged lately by his drug use, jail time and an on-and-off relationship with supermodel Kate Moss.
Charges against Doherty and fellow musician Alan Wass were discontinued because of "insufficient evidence for a realistic chance of prosecution," a Crown Prosecution spokeswoman said.
Doherty and Wass, a guitarist for the band Left Hand, had been due to appear at a preliminary hearing on 18 April, but Doherty's charges were dropped on 8 April and Alan Wass's dropped on 1 April, the spokeswoman said.
Doherty, 25, and Wass, 23, were arrested on 2 February after an alleged argument with filmmaker Max Carlish at a London hotel. Doherty spent four nights in jail before being released on bail.
Doherty's bail conditions forbade him to go out between 10pm and 7am but these were relaxed so he could play a concert at the Brixton Academy in London with new band Babyshambles, at which he got into an on-stage scuffle with guitarist Patrick Walden.

Meanwhile, Kenneth prepares for the Rapture.
