Jackson sues New Line over 'Rings'

'The Lord of the Rings' director Peter Jackson is reported to have sued New Line Cinema for allegedly withholding profits from the first film of the franchise 'The Fellowship of the Ring'.

Reuters says that Jackson's company Wingnut Films has sued New Line for breach of contract, breach of good faith and fair dealing and unfair competition.

The suit includes 19 allegations.

The lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages and restitution, does not mention the other films in the Oscar-winning trilogy 'The Two Towers' and 'The Return of the King'.

In a statement, Jackson's legal team said that they tried to resolve the dispute with New Line, which is owned by Time Warner, but that this had proved unsatisfactory.

New Line Cinema would not comment on the case.

    Another case of a great show at an awful time - and it's a terrible shame because 30 Rock has probably been the smartest as well as the funniest network American sitcom since the glory days of Seinfeld. Tonight, Liz returns from holiday break with a new outlook that leaves her immune to Tracy's acting out over Jenna's new fame as a judge on the reality show America's Kidz Got Singing. Meanwhile, Kenneth prepares for the Rapture.

    With a budget of €10K, and 160 guests invited to their very special day, Franc is on hand to mentor Dublin couple Gemma Barnes and Gary Mackle as they endeavour to create their winter wonderland-themed wedding in Wexford. A wedding dress has to be found, and a ring needs to be re-worked all in an attempt to create a unique and cost effective 'wow' wedding. And Gemma and Gary head for Camp Franc to find out just how they can make their day perfect.

    Golf is one sport that looks amazing on TV, so here's another treat for couch potatoes. Hazel Irvine presents live coverage of the fourth and final round at Wentworth. Last year's final day culminated in a dramatic play-off between Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, and it was the former who emerged victorious to take the world number one spot off his compatriot. With so many Europeans dominating the top of the World rankings, viewers can expect a tight contest (and maybe an Irish win).
