Pitt travels to Ethiopia for AIDS project
Wednesday 10 November 2004The visit was organised by DATA, a Washington-based lobby group which was co-founded by U2's Bono. The group campaign on Third World trade issues, debt and HIV/AIDS issues.
Pitt travelled to the Horn of Africa country on Friday and stayed there until late Monday night, visiting local projects designed to combat the spread of HIV and AIDS in the Third World.
Pitt is also reported to have met with a number of Ethiopian singers who have been working on educational projects to raise money and awareness for the AIDS programmes being operated there.
It is estimated that more than 29.4m in Africa are currently infected with the virus, with 6,500 people dying there every day from AIDS, leaving a population of 25m children orphaned.
