Special Brit Award for Bob Geldof
Tuesday 2 November 2004The former Boomtown Rat will receive his award in London on 9 February. Previous recipients have included U2, Van Morrison, David Bowie and Sting.
In 1984, Geldof gathered some of the world's biggest stars to record the Band Aid single 'Do They Know It's Christmas' in order to raise money for starving people in Africa.
His fundraising work culminated in the Live Aid concerts in London and Philadelphia the following year.
Since then Geldof has continued to campaign for the abolition of Third World debt.
A new version of the Band Aid record will be recorded for charity this Christmas and is due for release on 29 November.
