EU should help developing world: Bono

Speaking at a meeting in Dublin Castle of the Development Ministers of all 25 EU Member States, he said it is not about charity anymore but justice.
Bono said some countries, including Ireland, had lived up to their promise to commit 0.7 % of their national incomes to help alleviate poverty and disease in Africa.
He added that others, including Britain and France, are dragging their heels.
The U2 singer also said there are no plans for Live Aid 2, despite persistent rumours to the contrary, as it would only raise millions when billions are needed.
The Minister of State for Development Co-operation, Tom Kitt, who is chairing today's meeting, said the EU is still the biggest donor of development aid in the World.
Kitt also said that he is proud of Ireland for hosting the meeting and of Bob Geldof and Bono for bringing much needed publicity to the issues.
This afternoon ministers are discussing how the EU should deal with the problems facing refugees fleeing the Darfur Region of western Sudan.
