Thousands greet Leo at Gangs première
Wednesday 8 January 2003Around 2,000 fans turned out in freezing temperatures to greet the actors outside Leicester Square's Empire cinema.
DiCaprio told reporters, "This been the biggest crowd so far, we didn't get that in Paris or Berlin."
Director Martin Scorsese and co-stars Jim Broadbent and Lucy Davenport were also in attendance.
An epic 19th century drama, 'Gangs of New York' tells the story of an Irish-American (DiCaprio) who sets out to avenge his father's death at the hands of gang leader Bill The Butcher (Day Lewis).
Irish actor Liam Neeson and Cameron Diaz, who also star, did not attend the première.
'Gangs of New York' is currently at number six on the US box office chart. It opens in Ireland and the UK this Friday, 10 January.
