Bloody Sunday ties for Sundance Award
Monday 21 January 2002The £3m film, directed by Paul Greengrass and produced by Jim Sheridan, received its Irish television premier on TV3 last night.
It focuses on the events of 30 January 1972 when 13 civilians were shot dead by British soldiers in Derry, Northern Ireland.
'Personal Velocity', which stars Kyra Sedgwick, Parker Posey and Fairuza Baulk as three women coping with a personal crisis, won the Dramatic Grand Jury Prize.
The festival prize for Best Documentary went to 'Daughter from Danang', which tells the story of a Vietnamese refugee's search for identity.
'Real Women Have Curves', written and directed by Patricia Cardosa won the Best Feature award as voted for by audience members.
The 2002 Sundance Festival, which takes place every year in Utah and is a showcase for independent filmmakers, closed with an awards ceremony last night.
