RTÉ secures Oscars for next 3 years
Monday 21 January 2002The announcement was made today by Dermot Horan, head of broadcast and acquisitions, RTÉ, and Tom Toumazis, senior vice president and managing director, BVI-TV.
The agreement, which follows last month's agreement in the UK for the Oscars® to return to the BBC, includes rights to the ninety-minute edited highlights for the Academy Awards® 2002-2004.
The live show will be broadcast from Los Angeles on 24 March 2002 and will be hosted by Whoopi Goldberg.
The awards date back to 1929 and are one of the most important nights of the year for Hollywood. ABC has telecast the show in the US since 1976 and is under contract until 2008.
