Moulin Rouge, Rings top NBR film awards
Thursday 6 December 2001The Fellowship of the Ring, which is due for release worldwide on December 19 won three awards, including Best Supporting Actress for Cate Blanchett.
Billy Bob Thornton won best actor for The Man Who Wasn't There, Monster's Ball and Bandits, while Thornton's Monster's Ball co-star, Halle Berry, was named best actress.
Jim Broadbent won best supporting actor for Moulin Rouge.
Actor-turned-film-maker Todd Field was named best director for In the Bedroom, which also won the best screenplay award.
Director Peter Jackson won a special achievement and production design award.
Actor Jon Voight won a career achievement award, while the Billy Wilder Award for excellence in direction went to Steven Spielberg.
John Cameron Mitchell won a directorial award for Hedwig & the Angry Inch.
The NBR will present the prizes to the winners in New York in January.

Last year's final day culminated in a dramatic play-off between Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, and it was the former who emerged victorious to take the world number one spot off his compatriot. With so many Europeans dominating the top of the World rankings, viewers can expect a tight contest (and maybe an Irish win).
