McGarrigle puts Temple Bar project online

A new online project created by Irish artist Conor McGarrigle is serving as a parallel universe to Dublin's "cultural quarter", Temple Bar.

McGarrigle is posting new works every two days to the site as part of the 28-day Graham Parker curated 'We're Not Really Here' at the Project Arts Centre.

"I was surprised to find that the domain name www.temple-bar.org was still available," says McGarrigle. "I immediately purchased it two weeks before the exhibition start for the princely sum of $35."

McGarrigle is interested in the ongoing relationship between the artists, who originally moved to Temple Bar in search of cheap rents, and Temple Bar Properties, the company set up to develop the area.

"Artists feel that they are being pushed out to make way for more shopping opportunities and expensive apartments, " says McGarrigle. "www.temple-bar.org, a parallel site to the 'real' Temple Bar site www.temple-bar.ie will symbolically reclaim Temple Bar for artists by competing with the official site for the search term 'temple bar dublin's cultural quarter'."
