U2 sell out Slane in 45 minutes
Saturday 10 March 2001There were angry scenes outside the Ticketmaster outlet at HMV on Dublin's Grafton Street after fans, many of whom had stayed up all night, were turned away. Garda reinforcements were called into the area as the situation intensified. Eventually a Ticketmaster spokesman came out to give the fans the answers they were demanding. After today's scenes, calls for a second U2 gig this summer are likely to grow.

Last year's final day culminated in a dramatic play-off between Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, and it was the former who emerged victorious to take the world number one spot off his compatriot. With so many Europeans dominating the top of the World rankings, viewers can expect a tight contest (and maybe an Irish win).
