Teddy Thompson - Teddy Thompson
Thursday 22 February 2001Virgin - 2001 - 46 minutes
The middle child of revered folkies Richard and Linda Thompson, Teddy's debut is a worthwhile trawl through AOR sentiments and low-light acoustics. With a stylistic overdraft to the likes of Crowded House and Squeeze, he wades through the grown-up waters of relationships and love gone AWOL supported by the likes of Emmylou Harris and Thompson Sr. While the results sometimes veer a little too close to cardigan dynamics, the string sways of 'Brink Of Love' and the downbeat longing of 'All I See' suggest that this is wisdom in progress. Old head, young shoulders and an encouraging debut bow.
