Simply stunning by Robert Lewandowski as Schmelzer's cross comes to the striker and he turns, drags the ball away from the Madrid defenders and shows strength to hold them off before blasting the ball into the top of the net from 10 yards out. Outrageous technique and what a position now for Borussia Dortmund now. That is Lewandowski's hat-trick.

50 min

Second goal of the night for Lewandowski and out of nowhere.

Reus' corner is easily claimed by Lopez and he plants the ball forward with Ozil just needing to control the ball to be clear on goal. It's a tough ask and it just slips away from the talented winger.

46 min

The second-half begins with a slightly-tempered atmosphere after that late concession. Dortmund need to lift themselves again, they showed enough in the first half to know they can obtain a lead again.

Dortmund were the better side for much of that half but they are punished for that mistake late in the half.

Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Real Madrid

42 min

Disaster for Dortmund as Hummels attempts to pass the ball back to his goalkeeper but just tips it into the path of Higuain and he is through on goal.

The tempo is slowing but Madrid make a fantastic break away. Ronaldo chases a ball down the left, his clever cross was headed by Khedira and Alonso's stinging shot is blocked clear. It was going to be a big test for Weidenfeller.

35 min

Higuain's cross is aimed at curling the ball over the defender to Ronaldo but it has too much on it and drifts wide. Ronaldo has been very short of service in this first half. Job done for Dortmund so far in that regard.

32 min

Blaszczykowski shows superb play to beat Coentrao and move down the right wing. He elects to advance directly towards goal with Higuain rushing back to tackle and force the Polish winger to knock the ball out.

29 min

Third free-kick in recent minutes from the left wing, once again placed into the penalty area, with goalkeeper Weidenfeller punching clear on this occasion. Madrid have had much more possession in the last few stages of play, but it is only set pieces that offering a route to goal so far.

12 min

Ronaldo tries to break through on goal but the ball runs out of play before he can advance on goal.

It has been an electric start by Dortmund, Madrid have shown little attacking threat and the pace in which Dortmund drive forward is really troubling them.

But he can now as Robert Lewandowski taps home after a sensational cross by Gotze from the wing.

Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Real Madrid

7 min

Marco Reus terrorises the Real Madrid defence as he picks the ball up on the half-way line and goes past two Madrid players. Diego Lopez managers to tip the ball away as Reus attempts to pass the ball into the net. The rebound pushes Lewandowski wide and he fails to get a shot on goal.

4 mins

It's a tight start in Germany with lost possession and no action in either penalty area. Both teams attempting to settle.

The teams are on the pitch as Jurgen Klopp's side are given a rousing ovation. The ground has been close to full for almost an hour. Real Madrid will need to cope with the fantastic atmosphere created.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 46 goals in 45 matches for Madrid, 11 in 10 in the Champions League, and averages more than a goal a game in his career with the Primera Division giants

Right winger Jakub Blaszczykowski has long been one of Dortmund's most influential players.

The Poland captain loves to cut inside and unleash fierce shots from outside the box and last summer made the 32-man UEFA long list as one of the best players in Europe.

Dortmund will have to put the disappointment behind them of today's announcement that star midfielder Mario Gotze is to leave the club in the summer to join Bayern Munich.

The German champions will meet the release clause believed to be €37million, making the 20-year-old playmaker the most expensive German player in history.
