Hello Bud rolled back the years at the age of 14 to win the Betfred Becher Handicap Chase for a second time at Aintree.
Successful in 2010 and running in this race for a fourth time, he was all out at the end to hold on and give trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies and his jockey son Sam an emotional triumph.
Hello Bud (14-1) answered his rider's every call to land this three-and-a-quarter-mile contest over the Grand National fences.
Join Together (5-1) was clawing back the deficit with every stride from the elbow but was still a neck behind at the line.
Big Fella Thanks (7-1) was a length and three-quarters away in third and Swing Bill (20-1) was fourth.
In an eventful race, Mumbles Head was a casualty at the first fence, Any Currency unseated his rider when going well and Problema Tic fell.
Ballabriggs, winner of the Grand National in 2011, appeared to find top weight of 11st 12lb in testing conditions too much while the 4-1 favourite West End Rocker was never travelling comfortably and was eventually pulled up.
