Smyth eases into London 200m final

Jason Smyth eased to victory in his heat of the 200m T13 in London this morning.

The 100m gold medal winner was the fastest qualifier in the heats, clocking 21.48, almost a full second ahead of Russia’s Artem Loginov who was the other automatic qualifier from the third heat.

Smyth, the reigning champion, will be aiming to break the paralympic world record, 21.48, in the final as the Derry man’s personal best over the distance is 20.49.

The next fastest qualifier for Friday evening’s final was another Russian, Alexander Zverev, who clocked a time of 22.18, 0.6 seconds slower than Smyth.
