Martyn Irvine will represent Ireland in track cycling at the London Olympics.

Irvine qualified for London 2012 with a seventh-place finish in the Omnium event at the Track World Championships at Melbourne.

Irvine secured five top-ten finishes over the course of the event ensuring a high overall placing.

Of key importance was his finishing position relative to the riders from Denmark (4th) and Poland (12th) who were closest to Ireland in the combined rankings from the twelve qualification events.

Irvine’s finishes ensured that Ireland were the seventh-ranked European nation and thus made the Games through being inside Europe’s top eight in the world.
