Parker gets green light for London

France point guard Tony Parker has been cleared to take part in the London Olympics after doctors gave him the go-ahead.

Parker, named in the French squad on Thursday, was a doubt for the Games because of an eye injury suffered in an altercation in a nightclub in New York last month.

The San Antonio Spurs player suffered a scratch to his cornea but after meeting with his employers and following medical checks in the United States Parker was told he could join up with the France squad.

The Spurs sought the opinions of two ophthalmologists who agreed with the French doctor who operated on Parker and two Swiss experts he consulted last week that he had recovered enough to play.

Parker may feature for France in a warm-up game against Great Britain on Saturday and could face many of his fellow NBA players when the USA provide France's first opponents in London.

The French Basketball Federation confirmed Parker's participation in the Games, revealing he had received the blessing of San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich to take part.
