Tomorrow’s Hillgrove Hotel Monaghan Rally, the second round of the Dunlop National Rally Championship features opening round winner Donegal’s, Declan Boyle (Subaru WRC), who will face stern opposition from Niall Maguire.
Local man Maguire is a former event winner and triple national champion, and also driving a Subaru WRC.
Fresh from his Circuit of Kerry victory, Donegal’s Donagh Kelly (Subaru WRC) is another contender for victory, while the presence of reigning Tarmac champion, Darren Gass (Subaru WRC), is likely to crank up the pace over the loop of three stages near Monaghan town.
Cork driver Daragh O'Riordan is utilising the rally to further acclimatise himself with his new Ford Fiesta WRC.
Meanwhile, Gary McPhillips (Ford Escort), James Stafford (Darrian) and Frank Kelly (Ford Escort) will provide top seed, Daniel McKenna (Ford Escort), with strong opposition in the two-wheel drive category.
Stafford finished third overall in Abbeyleix and will be hoping for similar conditions in Monaghan.
Overseas driver James Belton (Subaru WRC) completes the top ten, meanwhile, Group N is very much a Monaghan affair with brothers Sam and Josh Moffett, Shane Maguire and Stephen Wright all in Mitsubishi EvoIX’s.
The rally begins at 9.20am tomorrow morning.
