A notable performance left Ireland’s Aoife Clark and her Irish Sport Horse Master Crusoe in joint 16th place after today's dressage phase at the world famous Badminton Horse Trials in England.
Clark, who finished individual seventh at the Olympic Games in London, was last to go on Friday and recorded a score of 45.8 to leave her in fourth place overnight.
All eight Irish riders are still in the hunt for the elusive Badminton Trophy, last won by Ireland when Major Eddie Boylan took first place with Durlas Eile in 1965.
The remaining Irish squad in the 84-strong leaderboard are Sarah Ennis (31st), Sam Watson (41st), Elizabeth Power (49th), Joseph Murphy (=56th), Peter Hannigan (=60th), Michael Ryan (80th), and Jim Newsam (83rd).
Power made headlines at Badminton in 2011 when she sustained head injuries after a heavy fall on the cross-country stage at the four-star event and had to be airlifted to hospital.
This year's competition continues with cross country on Sunday, where Irish riders traditionally make up lost ground, and the final show jumping phase on Monday. The current leader is reigning Olympic, World and European Champion, Germany's Michael Jung .
