Andrea Petkovic rallied to upset Eugenie Bouchard and reach the final of the Family Circle Cup in Charleston.
Bouchard, the sixth seed, dominated the early going and won the opening set 6-1 before going up 3-2 in the second.
But she failed to take one of three break points that would have made it 4-2, allowing the 14th-seeded Petkovic to come back and win the set 6-3.
That set up a fierce fight in the deciding set, but Petkovic took it 7-5 to advance and earn a shot at a third WTA title - and what would be her biggest.
"I'm just very happy. I'm just very emotional right now," Petkovic said on the WTA website.
"The match was really tough. Genie played so well today - she was so aggressive, and I have to admit I was a little lucky in the second set when I managed to turn the match around.
"It was just a few points here and there that made the difference."
Swiss qualifier Belinda Bencic did her best to make it a double upset in the second semi-final, but eventually fell short against Jana Cepelova in a two-and-a-half hour contest, with Cepelova winning 6-4 5-7 7-6 (9/7).
