James McGee's dream of being involved in the main draw at the Australian Open is over after he crashed out of the qualifiers.

McGee lost his men's singles first-round tie against Taiwanese player Jimmy Wang 7-6, 7-5.

The Irish player lost the first-set tie break 7-2.

He rallied at 5-4 in the second, saving two match points to come back to break.

However, Wang took the next two games to progress to the next round.
