Frenchman Richard Gasquet boosted his hopes of making the end-of-season ATP World Tour Finals in London by clinching his seventh career title in emphatic fashion at the ATP PTT Thailand Open in Bangkok.
The second seed crushed fourth-seeded compatriot Gilles Simon 6-2 6-1 to secure his first tournament triumph since winning in Nice in May 2010.
Simon started well and broke the Gasquet serve in the opening game, but the joint world number 12 responded well and cruised through the rest of the first set.
Gasquet then broke Simon early in the second for a 3-1 advantage and then again in a tougher sixth game en route to a 69-minute victory.
The result improved Gasquet's ATP Tour record to 6-0 against Simon, who ousted top seed Janko Tipsarevic at the semi-final stage yesterday.
