Sam Barry got off to a winning start in his US Open Junior campaign on Tuesday night with a comfortable 6-1 6-3 over world number 30 Nick Chappell in New York.

Barry's faces world number five Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the second round on Wednesday.

National coach Garry Cahill, who is with the Limerick player in the US, attributed the win to Barry's success with the return of serve.

'Sam won 60% of the points on the return which is a very good statistic at this level,' said Cahill.

'The best players in the world are here in New York but Sam has a great chance if he goes on playing like this.'
