Conor Niland wins Israel Open

Ireland's Conor Niland has won the final of the Israel Open in Ramat Hasharon today.

Niland claimed the victory by beating Brazilian Thiago Alves, the number four seed who is ranked 116 in the world, coming from a set down to win 5-7, 7-6, 6-3 in a final that lasted three hours and eight minutes.

Niland shocked number three seed Rainer Schuettler in the second round of the tournament in three sets.

As a result of his win, Niland becomes the Irish number one, taking over from Louk Sorensen, and he also breaks into the world top 200. He also picks up a cheque for $14,400.
