Niland defeats Schuettler in Israel
Wednesday, 5 May 2010 19:13Limerick's Conor Niland has advanced to the quarter-finals of the US$100,000 Israel Open with a spectacular 7-5 4-6 6-4 win over Rainer Schuettler.
Schuettler, seeded number three in Israel, has an impressive Grand Slam record.
The German reached the final of the 2003 Australian Open where he was defeated by Andre Agassi, while in 2008 he reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon losing to the eventual champion Rafael Nadal.
Niland, who is ranked 222nd in the world rankings, will play either the home favourite Harel Levy or the American Alex Bogomolov Jr for a place in the semi-finals.
