Ireland finish with a victory at Fitzwilliam

Ireland's Davis Cup team completed an impressive 4-1 win over Turkey at the Fitzwilliam Club in Dublin on Sunday.

The visitors made a bright on the final day, with Marsel Ilhan defeating James McGee 6-2 6-4 to claw back the overall score to 3-1.

The concluding singles contest saw Barry King record another victory for the home team. Baris Erguden took the Irish player to three sets, but King prevailed 7-5 3-6 6-2.

Ireland had been assured of victory in the tie after winning their double encounter on Saturday.

McGee and King's thumped Ilhan and Haluk Akkayun 6-3 6-1 6-2.

Ireland's next Davis Cup engagement will be against Lithuania in Vilnius one week after Wimbledon.

The Lithuanians edged out a British side missing Andy Murray 3-2 to leave captain John Lloyd in a perilous position.

Britain must now beat Turkey in a relegation play-off to avoid dropping to Europe/Africa Zone Group III - the lowest tier of the competition.
