Davydenko & Djokovic go through

Nikolay Davydenko, continued his irresistible streak of form as he blasted past German Dieter Kindlmann 6-1 6-0 6-3.

The Russian sixth seed has is in the form of his life after beating Roger Federer in their last two meetings - having previously failed 12 times in a row - with the most recent coming en route to his title victory in Doha earlier this month.

Davydenko also won the end-of-season ATP World Tour Finals in London in November, and the confident 28-year-old believes the top players are running scared of him as he looks to claim his first grand slam title.

'I know everybody is scared to play against me,' he said.

'People start to talk about me being among the favourites now. It's interesting feeling. Now I feel like I can beat everyone. It's a good feeling.'

Davydenko next plays 22-year-old Illya Marchenko, the world number 119, after he knocked out veteran Carlos Moya in straight sets.

Third seed Novak Djokovic overcame a spirited start from Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver to win his night session match on the Hisense Arena 7-5 6-3 6-2 while 20th seed Mikhail Youzhny battled cramps before winning an epic five-set battle with Frenchman Richard Gasquet.

The match lasted seven minutes short of five hours and went on into the early hours before Youzhny won 6-7 (9/11) 4-6 7-6 (7/2) 7-6 (7/4) 6-4.

Gasquet's countrymen Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gael Monfils had far easier days as they won in straight sets.

Last year's semi-finalist Fernando Verdasco was made to battle by Australian Carsten Ball before winning 6-7 (4/7) 7-6 (7/1) 7-5 6-2, however, the news was not so good for his fellow Spaniards as Tommy Robredo, the 16th seed, and former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero were both bundled out.

Unseeded Marcos Baghdatis, the 2006 finalist, continued his own good form after wining the Sydney International last week with an emphatic 6-2 6-4 6-4 win over Italian Paolo Lorenzi.

The Cypriot will next meet 17th seed David Ferrer in the second round after the Spaniard's opponent Frederico Gil retired with a knee injury while trailing 6-0 6-0 2-0.

American James Blake set up a meeting with fourth seed Juan Martin del Potro tomorrow after he won his clash against fellow tour veteran Arnaud Clement 7-5 7-5 6-2.
