Ireland’s Barry Murphy has failed to qualify for the final of the 50 metres breaststroke at the World Championships in Barcelona.

Murphy clocked a time of 27.78 seconds to finish in seventh place in his semi-final.

The Irish record holder finished 14th overall with only the top eight making it to the final, missing out by 0.34 seconds.

Earlier this morning, Murphy swam a season’s best time of 27.52 seconds, 0.25 faster than his semi-final, to finish sixth in his heat and 13th overall in qualification.
