Ireland’s Sycerika McMahon advanced with ease to the final of the 50m breaststroke at the European Championships in Debrecen on Saturday.

The 17-year-old, who qualified for the London Olympics in the 100m breaststroke earlier in the week, finished second to Petra Clocova of the Czech Republic in her semi-final, clocking the second fastest time of all of tomorrow’s finalists.

The final of the 50m breaststroke, which is a non-Olympic event, takes place at 5.10pm Irish time on Sunday.

Gary O'Toole, Michelle Smith and Grainne Murphy are the only three Irish swimmers to have landed medals in the competition.
