Bethany Carson set another Irish record in the 100 metres butterfly on the final evening of the Carlton Irish National Swimming Championships at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin.

Carson claimed gold in one minute 0.53 seconds, shaving five hundredths of a second off the time she clocked in Friday’s heats.

Shani Stallard also delivered a stellar performance at the NAC as her victory in the 200m breaststroke in 2:31.9 qualified her for May’s European Championships.

It was an otherwise quiet end to the four-day meeting, with Ireland’s main Olympic hopefuls competing in the British trials in London.

Sycerika McMahon set the fastest time in the heats for the 200m individual medley, but opted not to contest the final as she prepares for the 100m breaststroke on Sunday and another chance to achieve Olympci qualification in her top event.
