Cooney sets Irish record in Hungary

17-year-old Aisling Cooney set a new Irish record in the 50m Backstroke at the European Swimming Championships in Debrecen, Hungary today.
Cooney swam a time of 29.35 but failed to emerge from the heats.
The previous record was set in 1991 by Niamh O'Connor.
Andrew Bree also failed to emerge from the heats of the men’s 50 metres Breaststroke but his main event is the 200 Breaststroke tomorrow.
