Stacey, McDonnell and O'Nolan win golds

Maynooth student Kevin Stacey, Laura McDonnell of Cormorant and Trojan’s Stephen O’Nolan were the big winners on an exciting day at the Irish Open Swimming Championships in Lisburn.
In the Men's 1500m Freestyle Stacey (NUIM) who is a member of the team travelling to the forthcoming World student games in Beijing won the gold medal in a time of 15.57.67, followed in second place by Edward O'Neill (Aer Lingus) in a time of 16.02.12 and bronze medal went to Christopher Bryan (Ennis) in a time of 16.05.19
The Women's 50m Butterfly title went to Mc Donnell (Cormorant) in a time of 28.68 followed closely by Clare Dawson (Bangor)29.11 also a member of the team for Beijing with bronze medal going to 13 year old Shaune O'Brien of Waterford Crystal in a time of 29.52.
In one of the most exciting finishes of the day the Men's 50m Breaststroke O'Nolan (Trojan) 30.42 narrowly defeated Colm Fitzgerald (Ennis)30.58 with Kyle Quaid (Galway) 30.62 taking third place.
