Republic of Ireland international Robbie Keane struck twice in the first half as LA Galaxy came from 1-0 down in the first leg to beat San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS Western Conference semi-finals.

Keane was sharp throughout and opened the scoring with a quality strike from distance that went in off the post.

The Dubliner's second came after a lightning fast Galaxy counter attack as Donovan fed Keane and he rounded the keeper with ease to slot his team into an early 2-0 lead as they went on to win 3-1 and 3-2 in the overall tie.

Galaxy will face either the Seattle Sounders or Real Salt Lake in the Western Conference Final on Sunday.

Keane was left out of the Republic of Ireland squad to play Greece next Wednesday with Giovanni Trapattoni happy to keep the record Irish goalscorer in reserve for future qualifying games.
