Drogheda United have appointed Darius Kierans as caretaker manager.

Neale Fenn will serve as his assistant at United Park.

Robbie Horgan left as boss of United earlier this week.

Kierans last took over the reins in Drogheda following the resignation of Alan Mathews in 2010 but was unable to continue in the role due to not having completed the requisite badges at the time.

Kierans said: "I am very happy to step in to help out the club pending the appointment of a new manager.

"I have a lot of respect for the board, having worked with them previously, and I had been working alongside Robbie Horgan this season as manager of the Under-19s so I know the players very well.

"I have told the board that I will give the role 100% for as long as it takes to get the right person for the job."

Drogheda host Sligo Rovers on Friday night in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division.
